Sun City West Finally Has Its Own Clubhouse, and a Fourth Restaurant Came With It

  • October 1, 2026

For three decades, every major amenity build at Sun City Hilton Head landed on the same side of the community. The 45-acre Village Center went in first, anchored by Pinckney Social Hall and its 17,000-square-foot ballroom. The Hidden Cypress Fitness Center followed, tucked beside the golf course of the same name, with Jameson's Charhouse attached for dinner after a round. The Lakehouse opened in 2012 with its own pools and pickleball courts. Every one of those sat within a few miles of the community's original clock tower.

When Sun City finally pushed west, past Sundance Drive into the section Del Webb calls Sun City West, what arrived first was modest: an executive golf course and a pub. Argent Lakes Pub and Pizzeria opened in the fall of 2020, serving residents on the north side of the community with pizza, lounge seating, and community tables, but nothing resembling a fitness center or an event hall. If you lived out there and wanted a workout class or a place to host fifty people for a club dinner, you were still driving back toward the original Village Center.

That gap closed this year. Del Webb celebrated the grand opening of a $50 million clubhouse and sports hub in Sun City West this spring, and it changes what "close to home" means for that side of the community.

What Actually Opened on Sundance Drive

The new complex is two buildings totaling 42,150 square feet, with the clubhouse alone built to hold gatherings of up to 500 people. That puts it in the same weight class as Pinckney Social Hall, not as a smaller satellite version of it. The second building is a two-story fitness center with an indoor pool and courts for pickleball, tennis, volleyball, and basketball, plus room for spin, yoga, and group exercise classes. The complex also includes an outdoor amphitheater, an indoor walking track, an outdoor sun deck, and a game room stocked with billiards and arcade games.

None of that existed on the west side of Sun City before this year. The nearest equivalent facility was either the Lakehouse, built in 2012 near the center of the community, or the Hidden Cypress Fitness Center further east. For a resident living in one of the newer sections off Sundance Drive, a fitness class used to mean a golf cart ride or a drive across the community. Now there's a second full-scale option that didn't exist a year ago.

Four Restaurants Now, Not Three

The community's official food and drink page currently lists four on-site dining options, and that fourth name is new. For years, Sun City residents chose among three restaurants:

  • Jameson's Charhouse at Hidden Cypress, the community's fine-dining option, overlooking the Hidden Cypress golf course
  • The Clubhouse at Okatie Creek, a casual sit-down spot with outdoor patio seating
  • Argent Lakes Pub and Pizzeria, the north side's pub-style menu of pizzas and salads, open since 2020

The new addition is the Brackish Bar & Lounge, located inside the Sun City West complex. It's the first sit-down dining option built specifically for the community's newest section, and it means residents living closer to Sundance Drive now have a restaurant of their own rather than a reason to drive toward Hidden Cypress or the Village Center for dinner.

Lay the four out chronologically and the pattern is clear. Sun City's amenities didn't expand outward all at once. They moved in stages: the original Village Center cluster in the 1990s, the Lakehouse in 2012, a golf course and a pub on the north side in 2020, and now a full clubhouse, fitness center, and restaurant on the west side in 2026. Each stage pushed a little further from the original clock tower, and each one arrived years apart.

The Pickleball Math Nobody Posts About

Sun City's pickleball scene has outgrown its own court count for a while. The SCHH Pickleball Club lists 30 permanent courts across the community, open for play from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Of those, 24 are lighted for night play, spread across two locations with 12 courts each. A handful of courts on the north side run their lights on a timer, and a few have no lighting at all. Every court reservation runs through an online system called CourtReserve, and the club itself has grown past 1,400 members according to a national pickleball court directory.

That's a lot of members chasing a fixed number of lighted courts, especially in the evening hours when most working-age retirees actually want to play. The new fitness building in Sun City West adds pickleball courts to that inventory, along with tennis, volleyball, and basketball. The exact court count for the new location hasn't been published yet, but any addition to a 30-court system serving 1,400-plus members changes the reservation math, particularly for residents whose closest existing courts were on the opposite side of the community.

Where the Calendar Goes From Here

Sun City runs more than 150 chartered clubs, everything from woodworking to model railroading to continuing education tied into the adjacent USCB New River Campus and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Club meetings, dances, and lectures have historically funneled through the Village Center's Pinckney and Magnolia Halls, simply because that's where the large event spaces were.

A 500-person clubhouse in Sun City West gives clubs a second venue with real capacity, not just a smaller overflow room. Whether specific clubs start rotating meetings toward the west side probably won't be clear until this fall and winter's event calendar fills in. The community's eHappenings calendar, published monthly through the resident portal, is the place to watch for that shift as clubs figure out which side of Sun City makes more sense for which event.

What's already certain is that Sun City West stopped being the section with just a golf course and a pub. It now has its own clubhouse, its own fitness center, its own restaurant, and its own set of courts. For residents who've spent the last few years driving east for nearly everything beyond groceries, that's the kind of change that shows up in daily routine before it shows up anywhere else.

If you're weighing how this changes life on different sides of Sun City Hilton Head, or you know someone comparing sections before making a move within the community, the Joan Kelly Group tracks these amenity shifts as closely as we track the market itself. We're always happy to walk through what's changed and what it means for a specific address.
